Who We Are
Protecting the North Fork for Generations
Established in 1988 by Robert Kranich and Garland Hudgins, Friends of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River is committed to preserving the river’s health and beauty through advocacy, education, community engagement, and scientific research. As a nonprofit organization, we collaborate with local communities, businesses, and conservation partners to protect this vital waterway for recreation, wildlife, and clean drinking water.
We recognize that a thriving river sustains a thriving community. Through grassroots advocacy, environmental monitoring, and strategic partnerships, we work tirelessly to safeguard and enhance the North Fork’s ecological resilience, ensuring it remains a valuable resource for future generations.
What We Do
Activate: We engage the community in conservation through education, outreach, and volunteer efforts. We foster partnerships, host events, and inspire action to protect the river.
Empower: We equip conservation leaders, landowners, and organizations with tools and knowledge to implement sustainable practices. We provide resources, advocate for best management, and amplify underrepresented voices.
Implement: We conduct water monitoring, restore habitats, and promote conservation strategies to improve river health. Our science-driven initiatives help protect clean water and resilient ecosystems.
Advocate: We influence policies and collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize watershed protection. As a community voice, we work to shape conservation strategies at local and state levels.
Develop: We expand donor and volunteer support to sustain long-term impact. Through fundraising, sponsorships, and community engagement, we ensure the future of river conservation.
