About Friends of Seven Bends State Park
Friends of Seven Bends State Park (FSBSP) began as a committee of Friends of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River (FNFSR), a nonprofit dedicated to keeping the North Fork clean, healthy, and beautiful since 1988.
Before Seven Bends State Park officially opened, FNFSR partnered with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to support park planning and development. As public interest grew, a group of volunteers and engaged citizens came together under FNFSR’s umbrella, eventually forming Friends of Seven Bends State Park.
A Park Years in the Making
Seven Bends State Park faced several delays before its opening. Construction was stalled due to necessary bridge reinforcements and flooding. When the park was finally set to open, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of all planned ceremonies. Despite these setbacks, the park quietly welcomed visitors in March 2020, quickly becoming a beloved outdoor destination. It was officially dedicated by the Governor and DCR on June 14, 2022.
Throughout the pandemic, Friends of Seven Bends State Park volunteers remained active, meeting virtually and continuing efforts to support the park. Today, our volunteers help with trail maintenance, wildlife habitat projects, educational programs, and more.
