Explore what we offer

Since 1988, Friends of the North Fork has been a dedicated advocate for the health of the Shenandoah River, focusing on education, science, and advocacy. We actively engage volunteers in river clean-ups, monitoring, and community projects, and in 2014, we became the official community support organization for Seven Bends State Park. As a private nonprofit, we're governed by a volunteer board of directors who report to members at our annual Spring meeting. Our Executive Director leads a small, passionate staff in Woodstock, Virginia.

The North Fork of the Shenandoah River connects us all, just as each stream and tributary adds to its vitality. Every person plays a role in the health of our watershed, and together we enjoy and steward this vital resource. We're committed to fostering diverse voices and ensuring equitable access to the river's ecological, recreational, and social benefits, promoting a healthier, more inclusive watershed for all.

Your support is vital to protecting and preserving the North Fork of the Shenandoah River for future generations. By donating or volunteering, you directly contribute to cleaner water, healthier ecosystems, and greater access for our entire community. Whether you're a long-time advocate or just discovering our mission, your involvement ensures that we can continue building a thriving, inclusive watershed. Together, we can create a lasting legacy for the river and those who rely on it.

Friends of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River is dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in both our organization and the local community. Just as diverse ecosystems strengthen the river, a thriving community depends on the contributions of all its members. We work to improve water quality, expand access to the river, and ensure that every voice in our community is heard and represented in our efforts. Understanding the historical and cultural challenges that shape environmental inequities, we commit to ongoing collaboration and reflection to create a healthier, more inclusive watershed that benefits everyone in our community.
